A photo of the New Hampshire State Library shortly after it was constructed in 1895 by Frances A. Dow.<br /><br />The New Hampshire State Library was built for a total cost of $313,687.39. The building was erected in 1894 and on January 8, 1895 there was a formal dedication. The building is Romanesque and constructed of New Hampshire granite. Prior to the expansion, a unique feature of the old building was the tapestry brick fireplace, donated by Elsie Gaskin. In 2005, restorations were made to bring the fireplace to a working condition.
